Amy

I always loved numbers from an early age.

After completing education I trained at a small local practice whilst studying for the AAT. I chose this route to ensure I gained a varied experience covering all areas of accounting, bookkeeping, statutory records and payroll. Once AAT qualified I moved to a larger practice gaining tax and audit experience where I stayed whilst studying and going onto qualify as a Chartered Certified Accountant

In 1995 I went on to work in two top 20 city based firms for eight years, primarily in their audit department however, due to my prior training and experience, I also undertook short secondments to clients in temporary FD/FC roles.

In 2003 I decided to come back to Essex and a smaller local general practise as I missed the variety of work and clients. I went on to build a large portfolio of clients from demolition contractors and training providers to individuals with small rental portfolios and subcontractors and everything in between.

In late 2019 myself and Bekki decided to form our own practice. We are like minded and have a vision of what an accountancy practice should and could be tailored to client specific needs. We are working together to fulfil our and our clients dreams and aspirations.

I decided to become an accountant while studying for my A levels.

I undertook my Chartered training with an established firm in Southend and I qualified as Chartered Accountant in 2005. Around the same time I joined a Top 20 firm in Chelmsford where I spent the majority of my time on audit, based at clients’ premises. Visiting client’s businesses is a part of my work which I continue to enjoy as I feel it enables me to gain a greater insight. Over the last 10 years as a client manager, I have gradually built a diverse portfolio of clients based in the South East. These include sole traders, partnerships, contractors and small family owned companies from locally focused to those with a national reach.

I believe it is important to stay aware of industry developments and one area that excites me is the ways in which accountancy services are evolving. Improvements in cloud based software such as Quickbooks and Sage means we can stay up-to-date with client’s businesses in real time, not months afterward. This allows me to provide constructive input at the most opportune time during critcal decision making.

In November 2019 beam + co was founded by Amy & myself. We share a vision of how accountancy services should be; professional, reliable and most importantly, approachable. We have too often heard from our clients that they never really understood what their prior accountant did and that they felt they didn’t really understand their own business. We strive to build a relationship with every client through face to face meetings, being available for calls and emails.
